What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy?

EMDR is a highly effective trauma therapy known to help resolve post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as treatment of many other conditions. This method involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR’s goal is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Compared to other therapy methods, EMDR is relatively new. It was developed in the late 1980's by Francine Shapiro and currently has more scientific research as a treatment for trauma than any other therapy.

EMDR therapy doesn’t require talking in detail about a distressing issue. EMDR instead focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts or behaviors that result from a distressing experience (trauma). This allows your brain to resume a natural healing process.

What is Experiential Therapy?

Experiential Therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses expressive activities such as movement and role playing to help people manage emotions. It is a form of treatment that focuses on the experience of everyday life including thoughts, feelings, behaviors, memories, past experiences, physical environments, etc.

Experiential therapy can help you explore or re-create traumatic or conflictual situations from the past and understand your response to them. In addition, it can help you release any negative emotions you were harboring and promote healing. 

Individual Therapy Sessions

I primarily offer virtual sessions and I am available to meet in person on Tuesdays. The sessions run for 55 minutes. Payment is due by credit card at the end of every session. Credit card information is stored securely on a HIPPA compliant electronic medical record portal called Simple Practice. This is the platform used for virtual sessions. I am “out-of-network” with all medical insurance companies. If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, I will be happy to assist you by supplying bills, diagnosis, and other information requested by your carrier for reimbursement. Patients are responsible for submitting their own claims if they choose to do so. I cannot guarantee reimbursement. Please inquire within for more information.

Group Therapy Sessions

Looking to join a Women’s Therapy Group that would be virtual and/or in-person? The Women’s group runs for 90 minutes once a week. You do not have to attend weekly, however, it is recommended. Payment is due at the end of the session. If you are not already meeting with me for individual therapy, I will have to complete a one-time intake session first so that I can get to know you and confirm that the group is the right fit for you. Group therapy is a great way to have a safe, non-judgmental space to connect with other women and not only feel supported, you also recognize that you are not alone.
