Hi, I’m Avi….
Welcome, I am so glad you are here! I understand that for most people, it is uncomfortable to open up and allow yourself to be vulnerable with, more or less, a stranger about very personal issues. I am hoping that sharing more about me can help normalize any reservations you may have.
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) which means I am a psychotherapist who focuses on looking at you as an entire person, not just a diagnosis. I received my Master’s (MSW) from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and have since went on to receive a certification in training for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I enjoy using this model as a way to help you look at how your thoughts and patterns influence your emotions and behaviors. I later received training in experiential therapy which can help to increase insight and understanding of oneself as well as others. Most recently I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and plan to work towards certification. This therapeutic approach is clinically known to be effective in helping a person heal faster from unprocessed traumas than many other methods.
I have been dedicated to working exclusively with women for the past 6 years and really feel that this is where my passion lies. I have experience working with women in an intensive outpatient setting (IOP) which is a group setting held three days a week. I have helped countless women work towards becoming the best version of themselves, often breaking molds that have been created for them via values and core beliefs that no longer fit.
I personally relate to the challenges that come with attempting to conceive, or the fears while carrying an unborn child, and the challenges and difficulties that come with being a first-time mom. I have worked with several women during their fertility journey as well as women during the postpartum period and the anxiety and depression that can feel all-consuming while trying to care for a newborn.
As a mother of two children, I know how stressful life can get and how easily we can “go through the motions” of the day to day and miss out on the joys that are happening around us. I have a special connection to those who struggle with balancing their drive to succeed career-wise with their desire to enjoy life and loved ones. The idea of incorporating time for yourself may seem impossible, however I am here to help. I have an empathetic approach and understand your worries and concerns. I have a passion for making meaningful connections with others and I hope I get a chance to do so with you.
